so the invite for NYC’s first community garden’s–liz christy–summer party says. created in 1973 by the green guerillas, this garden pioneered the urban community garden in NYC. nestled on the corner of bowery & houston, liz christy garden had to put up a fight to remain the serene haven it has been for 40 years. development on bowery is booming, and only an outpouring of public support saved the sweet little corner of green goodness from destruction.
luckily, all worries have passed, as in 2002 an agreement between the city and NYS attorney general secured the preservation of the garden. hell yes!
so, come support green guerillas, the liz christy garden and all the work they do keeping our city beautiful. put on your best party hat & get down to bowery!
