filmbiz-32summertime!

(well, it is supposed to be here anyway).  yes, summertime!

we all love a great summer blockbuster, or romantic comedy or that must-see indie flick that everyone is talking about.  sometimes, we are just escaping the oppressive humidity into the chill AC of the theater.  but as we sit there munching our popcorn, how many of us contemplate the damage done by these flix environmentally?

true, some folks like ed norton have inspired cast & crew to be aware and have fostered legitimate change–the set of the incredible hulk for instance.  it wasn’t just the main character that turned green–the whole shoot was.  but, bold choices like that are few & far between.

what to do? enter firecracker eva radke and her film biz recylcing company to save the day. her savvy (from years of working in the business) and love of earth inspired her to create a much needed resource for the industry.

let film biz recycling be your one-stop drop-off at the end of your event!  they work together with other amazing organizations to properly recycle your “disposables”.  in this way, they can maximize the social & environmental good by organizing what goes where.  rather than sending it all to one location that might not have the capability of sorting your goodies in a truly effective way, they group items together & send them off to the proper venues for reuse.

for example…this is how your film set leftovers might get disbursed!

Wardrobe - NY Clothing Exchange

Recycling Drop Off and sets - Meserole Street Recycling

Building Supplies - Build it Green

Furniture - Film Biz Recycling, Housing Works, Build it Green

Set Dressing - Film Biz Recycling

some stuff, like smaller props & furniture are kept in-house and are made available for rentals.  check out the many groovy items eva has warehoused out in LIC here! she has an amazing eye & a lovable quirky style, so you will find interesting, one-of-a-kinds for your shoot/event.

this is a totally win-win situation for everyone involved.  definitely keep film biz recycling in mind — you’ll be doing a world of good!
