queens county farm museum

it is my secret (ok–not so secret) fantasy, to someday have a commitment ceremony in a barn or some farm. i blame it on my texas roots as i also want a live band to call a square dance so we can have a proper hoedown. i digress.
problem is, i live in nyc so when (if) i get my wish of me & some sweet boy declaring our love, this means draggin’ everybody (in lots of gas-guzzling cars) upstate or to pennsylvania–where barns are a plenty– to make my sweet dreams come true.
or maybe not.
lucky for me, when my day does come, i can load family & friends on the F train–a much greener transpo choice–and head over to one of my all time favorite venues–the queens county farm museum. this 47 acre tract is the longest continuously farmed land in the great state of ny–and could potentially be the answer to your party prayers as well.
they have various options for throwing a shindig on the property. the barn complex, the orchard and my fave, the airy pavilion. the prices are right and as they say–location, location, location. you will feel transported out of our crazy city and into the country, where time moves slower and the light cuts across the horizon in beautiful shades of pastel. the cute little piglets round out the wholesome experience as well.
their approved caterer is bon soir, who has a hot buffet menu as well as BBQ options.
not planning a party just yet? group visits can arrange for workshops on topics varying from loving your houseplants to ways to work a greenhouse and even the totally motivating honey bee & egg incubation. cool!
all you DIYers, make sure to check out their tuesday night (7-9pm) quilting instruction. i am so tempted to learn this lovely craft in this sweet, bucolic setting.
support this noble & worthy cause this weekend. head to farm fest–see ya there!
