monday nights at moma
check out this moma monday night festivity.
One Monday a month, MoMA stays open until 8:45 p.m. Drop in after hours for exhibitions, films, entertainment, and a cash bar. The first 600 ticket buyers after 5:30 p.m. receive free admission on their next visit. Visitors have an extended opportunity to view special exhibitions, as well as the Museum’s renowned collection of modern and contemporary art. Entry to Modern Mondays, the Museum’s weekly series of screenings and discussions with contemporary filmmakers, is included in the cost of admission. Entrance to Modern Mondays screenings is on a first-come, first-served basis.
On April 6, MoMA goes green with free bicycle valet parking—courtesy of Transportation Alternatives, New York City’s advocate for biking, walking, and public transit—and half-price admission for visitors who bike to the Museum. Simply park your bike between 5:30 and 8:45 p.m. (enter the lot west of MoMA on Fifty-third Street) to receive a half-price ticket voucher for the event. Carbon emissions will be offset for the evening, and visitors can enter to win a collapsible STRiDA 5.0 Bicycle, ideal for urban transport. (Please note: Bicycles must be claimed from valet parking by 9:00 p.m. MoMA is not responsible for property that is lost or stolen during the event.)
Free with regular Museum admission.
Sustainable Thinking: Building the Modern Community
Monday, April 6, 2009, 6:30 p.m.
Theater 3 (The Celeste Bartos Theater), mezzanine, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research BuildingThis program examines how leading artists, scientists, and cultural theorists are responding to ecological issues. This panel discussion explores the ways in which contemporary artists and thinkers create utopian projects and embrace the distinct aspects of local environments and markets as a response to global homogenization. Participants debate what they have learned from projects that reclaim a connection to our environment and shift towards a low-tech approach to sustainable living. Participants include Raúl Cardenas Osuna from the collective Torolab and Fritz Haeg (www.fritzhaeg.com). Moderated by MoMA conservation scientist Chris McGlinchey.
Tickets ($10; members $8; students, seniors, and staff of other museums $5) can be purchased online or at the lobby information desk and the film desk.
