catching the fleeting glimpse of the cherry blossoms are a ritual in japan–it’s called hanami.

families & lovers plan picnics under the branches of trees bursting with blooms.  the blossoms represent the circle of life–fading beauty & death–and leave us as quickly as they come to us.  ahhh, such rich lessons for life.

currently, there are only four bloomers.  but you can stay abreast of potential blossoms with the
cherry watch–a detailed map of the cherry walk & esplanade.  keep a watchful eye out for updates for first blooms and grab your sweetie for a day of blue skies, green grass & pink buds of love.

if you need more action than a good snuggle under a tree, check out the sakura matsuri (may 2-3).  guaranteed to get your blossom on, the weekend consists of traditional japanese music and dance to concerts by some of japan’s hottest J-pop stars, plus taiko drumming, an anime voice actor panel, bonsai pruning workshops, j-pop DJs, a traditional kimono show, and demonstrations & workshops for all ages.
