city bakery’s 17th annual hot chocolate festival
as the bitter cold rips us apart, there are few things that make me excitable these days. i am dreaming of sunny, blue skies shining on me. this currently is not the case. NYC has a bad case of the blues. it’s been cold for a while. we have all been sick–on & off–for weeks. there is talk of subway fare hikes even though the 7 line is down on the weekends. we all are getting a bit “moody”.
thank god february is just around the corner!
what you say? i know, it doesn’t mean an end to the bitter cold. it does however mean the start of city bakery’s 17th annual hot chocolate festival. hot damn!
yes, for 17 years they have been warming NYers with exotic cocoa flavors that intrigue even the most jaded of characters, including me. this year is no exception. each day brings a new flavor to the mix–my anticipated favorites are the sexually charged “arabian nights”, the seemingly confused “earl grey” & “vanilla”, as well as old faithful, “ginger hot chocolate”. some curious bedmates also include the booze-inspired “beer” & “bourbon” offerings.
so get ready. coordinate with your girlfriends. finally ask that cutie-pie out, to share a mug with you. take an old neighbor friend out for a treat. these cocoas are made for sipping as they are thick & decadent. homemade marshmallows are available for the purist, as well as whipped cream.
check their online calendar for daily flavors so good, you’ll (almost) wish winter would never end!
