when you do events, there inevitably will be leftovers. what you do with them is what sets you apart.

are you gonna just toss it in the trash?

will you donate it?

will you find a new purpose for it?

after a recent installation, i was left with some wood 2 by fours. they were short pieces that really weren’t gonna go too far in another project, but i just couldn’t toss them.

i decided i would upcycle them into an EASY DIY craft–fun tealight candleholders!

all you need is:

scrap wood pieces

1.5 inch hole drill bit

tealights

sandpaper

that’s it!

well, you probably need a partner to hold the wood while you drill–otherwise, you might get clocked by flying wood.

the most difficult part of this project is figuring out how to layout the candles on the wood. i avoided taxing my brain too much about it, by simply scattering the tealights & drilling wherever they landed. you too can employ this method or maybe go with a straight line down the middle. once you have your design figured out, drill baby drill. sand down the little bits around the edges, insert your candles & enjoy instant ambiance.

i wanted to keep the natural wood, but you could stain or paint it as well. decoupage would be fun to explore as well. one bit of advice–make sure to keep your drill bit straight up, or your hole will be uneven!
