i’m very inspired by all of the plastic bag crafts out there. it makes me almost sad that bloomberg is outlawing them. well, that’s not true, i’m super happy about that! but i am also super-psyched to see creative greenies finding awesome new ways to incorporate existing bags into new shapes & purposes.

even before the financial meltdown that will define this generation, many of the nation’s poor were in a crisis–a food crisis. many NYers live in neighborhoods where fresh foods are not even an option. they are reduced to living out of cans bought at discount/drugstores–cans having traveled miles & packed with food suffering [...]

found this amazing reuse for toilet paper rolls on ohjoy today.
what a stunning concept. artist yuken teruya manipulates everyday objects, transforming them into small & enchanting worlds. the shape of a tree is created without adding or removing anything, just by cutting out the roll itself.
born in Okinawa, Japan in 1973, he received his [...]

weddings symbolize new beginnings. moving forward together in a new life.
but if you & your honey are like most new yorkers, you’ve probably been living together (in tight quarters) already and have acquired most of what you need to survive–jack lalanne’s power juicer, pasta maker, bodum french press, organic flannel sheets. why [...]

well, not really.
ever since chuck moved his factory to china, i just haven’t been able to get behind my old back-in-the-day punk fave–the converse chuck taylor. every year at spring cleaning time, i struggle to toss or not to toss out the last remaining pair that i have–blue, low-top, made in the USA [...]

remember when you were little & made the obligatory volcano that erupted when you added vinegar to it?
well, same science applied to more indulgent pursuits. imagine your nice hot bath erupting into tickly aromatherapy bubbles instead! drop one or two of these little explosions into the water, lay back & enjoy the [...]

martha, martha, martha!
check out this great alternative to crepe paper flowers. corn husks give you a natural palette & are more durable–which means you can reuse them over & over & over again.
while the obvious choice for a t-day table, i think these would look fantastic for a barn wedding or fall luncheon table.
i’m betting [...]

i love this little green birdie.  and you should too, as s/he represents the collective evolution of our fair city.  whenever this little guy is out, something ecologically-minded is going down.
see what i mean below.

NBC Universal and the City of New York are teaming up to present “Green Screens” Electronics Recycling Events in all five [...]
