found object d’art
stuart haygarth’s found trash chandeliers are wonderfully brilliant to look at. taking washed up manmade debris from the kent coastline, his take reminds me of the surfrider foundation billboard ad campaign, except on a new & artistic level. while the saatchi & saatchi ads are massive heaps of trash meant to appaul, haygarth woes us with the organic harmony of the elements. he has found a way to get his audience rethinking disposables without them even knowing it. as the viewer, you are simply stunned by the audacity. then you’ll want to run home, raid your trash & make one for yourself! i can’t wait to hang something similar from the ceiling of an event.
both perspectives are wildly effective–and sadly, both still works in progress, as our oceans are filling with debris. as a texan by birth, i was especially saddened to see galveston island’s catch of the day.
heartbreaking.
volunteer with surfrider and help clean beaches in your neck of the woods. the little fishes with thank you!
