the cooking class i took monday focused on dairy-free desserts, but the instructor also took some time to talk about the slavery of chocolate.
we don’t always think about the food supply & how stuff gets from the ground to our bodies, so i welcomed this idea that somewhere, someone was being forced into slavery [...]

i’m pretty good at making vegan cupcakes–thank you isa chandra moskowitz–but sometimes a girl needs something else to satisfy her cravings. enter the natural gourmet cooking instutite for food & health on 21st street. it was founded by annemarie colbin to focus on health-supportive cooking–believing that what we eat significantly affects our physical, [...]

local treats to welcome the new season.
cupcakes are awesome enough–but these, topped with woodland creatures creeping thru the snow–are childhood fantasy. this comes via a cakespy interview of red hook’s baked bakery.

if you’ve had your head in the election, you might not have even noticed that we are heading straightaway into the holidays. don’t kid yourself, they are closer than you think!
i’m contemplating not putting up a christmas tree–it seems extra snug in the studio apartment this year. so i’m looking for another fun [...]

via paper source.
i’ve loved their paper flower kits for a while–from a distance. a lot of them come with pre-cut paper parts, some don’t, so beware when ordering.
also, be sure to watch the sweet how-to video via oo la la. it shows how easily (albeit time consuming) to make these babies. adapt [...]

simple. pretty. and beyond a fast fix.

i love the way pumpkins glow during halloween, but i somehow feel conflicted using pumpkins–it can be sorta wasteful.

i don’t mean to poo-poo pumpkins, just that after i found this cool craft using recycled cans as ghoulish faces, i figured we could save pumpkins for pie (that will get eaten!) instead.
yes, it’s from krylon, so [...]
