get felt up

got your attention huh!
these beautifully chic felt wine bottle covers are so cool. i would love to use a bunch of them, running down the center of a long table–one for each guest. a great non-floral option–at the end of the party everyone goes home with a bottle & flowers.
definite one-stop shopping.

the NYT focuses on NY event designer david stark today. while his designs always please, i love his creative perspective, “I think of each project as a big art installation that happens to be for a party or a dinner.” adopting this attitude allows your freedom to explore your own dynamic ideas & [...]

in lieu of party favors, i love, love, love giving to charities instead. it’s a great way to personalize your event & spread goodness.
but why wait for a party?
give now, with just a click.
the animal rescue site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their food fund link everyday in order to [...]
art of the gift bag

ahhh, the gift bag. how many times have you lugged the thing home only to find it filled with a bunch of crap? it might be sufferable if they’d at least give you a cool bag that you could reuse, right?
well, the gift fair was loaded with a hefty variety of options. [...]
SOL fair trade

the new york international gift fair had a real push this time out for green.
one whole section was “handmade in the USA” which promoted the idea of goods handcrafted locally with local materials. other sections focused on recycled, reusable items and others took that idea further, dealing only in fair trade.
of the latter, sol [...]

during the presidential primaries, i had to live with a boyfriend who seriously read the “bloom-o-meter” in crain’s new york. he’s pinko to the core, yet loved the idea of bloomberg potentially running for commander-in-chief.
i was baffled–the man’s a party shifting republican, right?
wrong.
now, i totally get it. as a green-spirit, i am in [...]
cell phones & domestic violence

how does recycling your cell phone help domestic violence?
turn in your old cellular telephones at the city sponsored recycling day (or to any verizon wireless store) as part of the national HopeLine program. the phones are reprogrammed to 911 and given to domestic violence victims or sold with the resulting funds awarded to local domestic [...]

food safety is a big concern for all of us. if it’s not pesticides or GMOs, it’s lead from china. these days, family-run farms and “growing your own” just makes sense. besides, getting your hands down in the earth is just so satisfying; whether it’s a windowbox, or a plot in your [...]
daytrip: beacon, NY

photo: cool abandoned warehouse/turned public art space.
beacon, a short train ride north, is home to DIA:beacon–an offshoot of DIA arts foundation. i got my boyfriend & longtime friend, kitty dan, to head up there with me on a recon mission. i wanted to scope it out as a potential event site.
the grounds itself [...]
