one fish two fish
fresh seafood
at dinner last night, conversation turned towards my vegetarianism. someone was wondering if i ate fish.
i do not. in a pinch, i have been known to buckle, but those moments are few & far between. if i am a guest, and i get served fish, i will eat it–rather than waste the food. but i think eating fish is like eating a cigarette butt. our waters are so polluted, i can’t help but imagine their poor little fish bodies saturated with all the nasty crap we toss into our oceans.
chew on that idea for a minute.
now i’m not saying you can’t be a pescetarian–but think twice about the fish you serve to your guests. you don’t want them glowing when they go home or laden with mercury toxins.
check out the monterey bay aquarium’s seafood safety watch list. go online and make sure the fishes you choose won’t rock the boat environmentally or with your health. the watch list breaks it down for you by taking into account bycatch, habitat damage, overfishing & aquaculture–based on that, they tell you best choices, good alternatives & which little fishes you should avoid altogether.
download & print out the list to keep it in your wallet for dining out/grocery shopping. or even better, have it downloaded to your phone.
