love her: cal patch

i first met sweet cal patch at a stitch & bitch she hosted at a LES bar. it was a way for she & her pupils to meet up for beers & knit together, like ladies used to do.

i felt conspicuous initially, as i was not a student–more a freeloader–and what’s more, i came to learn how to crochet, not knit.

immediately cal was kind to me, she was happy to help a fellow crafter accomplish her goal (an art project–to crochet baby clothes for siamese twins). she patiently helped deconstruct the moves required to put a ruffle trim along an edge.

i will forever be deeply indebted to her.

but, then again, so is most of crafty NYC. cal teaches sewing & needle arts through brooklyn general and is the sewing contributor over at craftstylish.com. plus, you can check out her etsy shop–she’s got some goodies on sale! you will love her from “scratch, repurpose, tiniest footprint possible” ways…i know i do.

her recent post about adding crochet trim to old t-shirts that need re-lovin’ seems well-suited for would be hostesses too. consider using the same method applied to fabric coasters, tablerunners or placemats. even paper invitations–see this project from purlbee a great baby or wedding shower aesthetic.

go crazy people, crazy!
