nyc stuff exchange, and stuff

during the presidential primaries, i had to live with a boyfriend who seriously read the “bloom-o-meter” in crain’s new york. he’s pinko to the core, yet loved the idea of bloomberg potentially running for commander-in-chief.
i was baffled–the man’s a party shifting republican, right?
wrong.
now, i totally get it. as a green-spirit, i am in love with bloomberg and his independent nature. NYC under his care, is becoming greener & greener; the million trees effort, the recycling comeback, green way summer streets, green roofs, solar initiatives….the man is trying to keep us on track by offering us lots of ways to be green. it wasn’t his fault we lost millions (500!) in federal dollars because our legislature didn’t adopt the congestion pricing pilot program.
it’s our fault. we didn’t press our elected officials to vote wisely.
so, we seriously need get up off our butts & support these bloomberg inspired programs, sending a message to those reps that kissed 500 million bucks good-bye, that new york wants green.

by 2030, greeNYC hopes to reduce or carbon emissions by 30%–check out how here.
the wasteless program offers numerous recycling, composting ideas for new yorkers.
one of the coolest programs offered is the nyc stuff exchange. you can buy, sell, rent, repair stuff.
it’s not to the level of freecycle, yet. but, the effort is worth noting.
