just food

food safety is a big concern for all of us. if it’s not pesticides or GMOs, it’s lead from china. these days, family-run farms and “growing your own” just makes sense. besides, getting your hands down in the earth is just so satisfying; whether it’s a windowbox, or a plot in your community garden–NYC has plenty of ways for you to play dirty.
for food & farm activists, it’s justfood.org.
since 1997, just food has helped coordinate community gardening to NYC through it’s city farms project. partnering with green guerillas, heifer project international, cornell cooperative extension-NYC, the northeast organic farming association, city harvest, greenthumb, community gardens, and emergency food providers throughout the city–the project is designed to encourage gardeners to appreciate the concept of community foods and be motivated to grow, distribute & market food within their communities.
through their community food education program, trained community chefs volunteer at farm stands and show how to select, store & preserve produce; also teaching creative cooking skills that emphasize the direct relationship between wellness & food in under served neighborhoods.
