as little girls we are lead to believe we all want a princess wedding–the fairytale.
as we grow up and the peculiarities of our personalities become more apparent, it’s clear–we are all not little princesses. nor should we be.
the creative, independent brand of brides today has set a whole new standard of dressing for success. [...]

i don’t mean to focus only on weddings when there are so many other important reasons to celebrate as well.
but alas, love is in the air!
i guess it’s because i’m in the midst of planning a wedding for september & helping my best bud find the perfect engagement ring for his sweet girl–i’m overwhelmed with [...]

if i were to ever hypothetically get hitched, i have thought it would be cool to take a jewelry class and make a ring for my betrothed. now i don’t have to.
check it, a DIY wedding band kit from green jeans in brooklyn.

my interest was peaked when i heard about bridal garden. at first, it seemed too good to be true–couture gowns at up to 75% off, all proceeds going to charity. ha! never.
well, believe it.
the concept is simple. get designers (they’ve got the biggies–wang, herrera, badgley mishka) to donate dresses, sell them [...]

i am a sucker for anything glassine. those slick little envelopes for stamps wooed me as a child and ever since. i still love to walk the isles at jam paper, but feel pangs of guilt knowing i really don’t need anymore envelopes–or do i?
problem solved. enter the kreate-a-lope! these bad boys [...]

my mom made silk flowers for friends weddings, as gifts, for fun. it was fun to watch her dye the silk, cut the petal shapes, work the material with her various irons & rollers. while mom was a pro, i know she would give the thumbs up to mommy makes roses.
maybe it’s all [...]

we went out to park slope yesterday and visited blue apron foods–purveyor of all foods artisanal.
i dove straight in for the chocolates. here are some favorites that struck a cord with me.

askinosie chocolate has some really wonderful, organic/rustic packaging. using remnants of their cocoa bean bags, the large bars come with a hang tag [...]

summer means BBQ.
BBQ means charcoal, of some sort.
do you know the difference? grillheads love to debate the merits of lump charcoal vs. briquettes. (notice i didn’t include propane!)
lump charcoal is the purist form of charcoal. it’s made by burning wood without oxygen. how this works is beyond me, but the resultant [...]

i could not be more excited about today’s post. yesterday we navigated raindrops to get over to the farmer’s market and i am so glad that we did. the river garden, one of my favorite flower stalls was beautifully stocked. maybe it was the freshness of the rain, but everything just look [...]

summer invites

my birthday is in july. this always sucked as a kid because,
1. i missed out on my mom baking cupcakes for my homeroom class (guaranteed to make you everyone’s BFF, at least for the day).
2. everybody was gone for the summer. having only your brothers & sisters at your birthday [...]
