photo: worldbuyers.com booth of pretty butterflies. luv it!
during the new york international gift fair, the javitz center becomes a replica in miniature of NYC. a swirling microcosm of energy & ideas coming together–some good, some bad.
i’ll be giving a full debriefing over the weekend–once i’ve digested the experience and my feet quit throbbing. [...]
union square: newfield farms

gladiolas were in full bloom at newfield farms today. they were lovely to look at, and at a dollar-fifty a stem, i wanted to grab the whole bundle. as i gazed at them, wondering how i could squeeze them into every corner of my apartment, i was struck by what a wonderful (and [...]

i am loving these sweet lavender sachets from jewelweeds.
what a beautiful favor for your guests. subtle & understated, who wouldn’t want to take one of these home with them after a swinging event? i can see these hanging from everyone’s chair and filling the space with their lovely aromatics.
can’t you?

moma in LIC, known formally as P.S.1, has always brought art to the people & fostered community with their outdoor summer warm-up series. part club vibe mixed with art installation, NYC movers & shakers get their groove on under clear blue skies.
this year’s installation contest focused on creating an urban landscape for the museum’s [...]

check these guys out!
i am a total patriot. i cry during the 4th of july fireworks for chrissake. but it totally bums me out that the US is not an industry leader when it comes to harnassing the gifts of the sun. while the rest of the world (and california) [...]

i know i’ve been going off on tangents lately about wedding rings.

but, you must indulge me one more post (for now) as this site is funny.
basically, it’s an online pawn shop with an intriguing story behind the ring. mostly it’s a bunch of brokenhearts, once engaged to cheaters, consequently, there are some pissed off [...]

unlike traditional generators run on eco-villians like diesel fuel, solar versions run, obviously, on pure sunshine. plus, they’re quiet, so your party won’t be buzzing with the jackhammer sounds of normal generators.
also worth noting (especially the price–ouch) are mobile solar AC units. very, very cool.
no pun intended–really.
like the solar generators, [...]

planning an event is hard work and every hostess’ BFF is a good search engine.
how many times a day do you look for something, anything, like say…linen rentals in a specific shade of blue. or where can you score the best red velvet cake in the city. or whatever obscure, random thing you just [...]
union square: compost

one very cool thing you can do after your event–think about composting leftovers.
if you’ve done some homework, you’ve probably hired a venue/company that will be happy to oblige–in fact, may even do it for you. if not, no worries. here are some ideas to help ease everyone into compliance.
the lower eastside ecology center [...]
precious stones

i am a total sucker for things with sentimental value.
my boy loves skipping stones so i like to collect some from all of our trips as sweet reminders of his cute boyish nature. for now, they sit in a pretty bowl and secure the random peony or gardenia.
that’s all good, but how neat is [...]
