the other day my dad, in the midst of a recent political debate, gave me a backhanded compliment. he said that he has always been shocked, that over these 22 years that ive been a vegetarian, he’s never felt i forced it down his or anyone’s throat–that i’ve always presented it as an [...]

last night, having a rather large bawdy group for dinner, we did quintessential NYC–hit 6th street for indian.
we decided on banjara. some friends were in town from austin so it was an eclectic mix of people. all varying forms of vegetarian were represented, as well as a few key food allergies. these guys [...]

it’s all the rage here in NYC. a step up from the hot dog or shaved ice carts–we love our gourmet food trucks!
maybe it’s ’cause rents are out of control in the city, and i mean OUT OF CONTROL, that new chefs are forgoing the overhead of square footage and going mobile. not [...]

noticeably absent from the DNC last night was the obligatory balloon drop that usually happens at a precise, fevered pitch of a moment to really push the crowd into a frenzy of uncontrolled delight. i believe it is meant to disorientate convention goers which, and as any good shaman knows, creates a feeling of invincibility–the [...]

loosely translated silhouettes & layered natural elements allow millions & zillions of different design options.
i see crisp white linens with crocheted overlays
or
sage greens with burlap
or
delicate organdy with rod iron candelabras.
it’s endless–the power combinations you can come up with.
little black rabbit collects wood & metal, giving us this quirky birdhouse i’d love to see as a [...]

i really love the sailor jerry, retro thing some brides bring to their wedding. it’s a lowbrow aesthetic that lends itself to fun, creative & potentially hi-brow accessories. whether drawing from your own tattoo collection or more generalized flash art–going this route really allows your personality to shine through.
the vegan red [...]

hands down, no two-ways about it: all-around winner of the NYIGF was yeehaw industries.
these guys go beyond our normal “inspirational printer category”. with wit, humor & a keen eye for lovely ephemera–there is much to love.
and i am totally, wonderfully, happy, in love. centered in knoxville, tennessee–the hillbilly thrives, praise jesus.
need proof [...]

please don’t do this…

it’s not just because i’m a vegetarian
or because i find the zoo depressing.
i just would not be able to enjoy my dinner if a critter was on the table.
i’m also not down for the bird or butterfly release at weddings. you are introducing an animal (insect) to an area it’s not familiar with, and [...]
