i was worried i wouldn’t get this post out before summer ended, but it would seem we are in for a long haul of stifling heat. as new yorkers, summer comes and we hit the outdoors with gusto. we find any excuse to be outside–the shake shack, movies in the park, catching up on our summer reading (um, see previous post).

at some point though, as much as we love it, we also love to complain about just how utterly friggin’ hot it is. and if it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity. don’t go running indoors for the AC, instead bring the festivities down a few degrees with an outdoor shower–perfect for beach or lakeside parties. all you need is plain ole garden hose to attach it to, and voila! . take your seat around the firepit, bust out the s’mores and have some libations you can feel good about. while not organic, barefoot wines is doing their part for sweet-mother earth, teaming up with the uber cool & awesomely cute peeps at surfrider, by rescuing beaches all over the country. serious kudos.

if your event is outside, consider having the area sprayed the day before. this will help deter any winged party crashers. you may want your event to have some buzz, but not of this kind. regardless, remember to set out baskets filled with sunscreen and bug sprays that your guests can use as needed. you can even make your own brand of sweet smelling repellent using yummy lemon, eucalyptus, citronella, neem and lavender oils to give as gifts. so, throw a few more logs on the bonfire or on the barbeque and party on.
