hello world!
so it begins…
i guess i should begin simply. afterall, that is the main point of garden party–
to simplify.
i just was so excited as i waited for my website to be completed. all these ideas coming at me with ferocious intensity. i want to let them all out into the world right now! but as i sit here, fingertips hovering over the keyboard, i’m getting blogger block. suddenly it seems overwhelming, like the moment of panic before a party when you think no one is going to come and if they do, they for sure won’t have a good time.
ok, breathe. we are gonna have a good time.
so, the beginning.
part of my motivation for creating this blog is to demystify “green” and creativity. i hope to accomplish this by fostering a community of like-minded folks not only willing, but excited to share their tried & true solutions for making the events that shape our lives beautiful & meaningful.
meaningful–hmmm, now this is tricky. if meaningful to you is having beluga caviar flown in overnight for your wedding, i pretty much guarantee this blog is not for you…sorry.
but, if less is more and handmade equals priceless, continue on.
i’ll be sharing ideas from my events that you can adapt (or outright adopt) and use as your own–turning you on to tons of fun stuff that will motivate you and make you forget that you don’t even know how to tie a bow. believe me there’s little a glue gun cannot fix–especially with non-toxic glue sticks, yeah!
my number one mantra: i believe an educated consumer is the best consumer. to help lead you towards enlightenment, load up your summer reading heavy with some classics. sorry jane eyre, by classics i mean such titles as….
the lazy environmentalist by josh dorfman
it’s easy being green by crissy trask
1,001 ways to save the earth over at chronicle book
these books will bring you up to speed fast and help lessen any guilt you may have for not starting sooner, not doing enough or any of the “i am only one in a world of apathy” styled excuses we give ourselves to stay in our ruts. you will feel empowered as you read through their pages, nodding, “ok, i can do that–and that, and that.” you’ll see! you’ll be hybrid before you know it.
also, hands down, you must get greenopia new york city. the resource guide for green NYC. they’ve distilled pretty much anything green you might be in need of for your event, or your life, into a zagats sized compendium. true, co-op america has the green pages, which rocks. but for any new york hostess going green, it’s greenopia all the way. (insert death metal hand sign). check it out.
(if you’d rather save some dough to spend on your party and save some trees, they’ve got an awesome online guide as well).
there you go. your reading list should keep you busy until i return. have fun!
